So you are expecting a new life! In the past, there might have been some shame attached to unwed couples, with whispering behind hands, and mean comments like "They had to get married... she's pregnant!" We call BS on that sort of thinking! No shame on you from us!
For this ceremony add-on, both parents are going to place their hands on mom’s tummy and sent some loving energy and communication to your unborn child! After all, they are there too, and need to be told that he or she is loved! The officiant will say the following words, but the parents will transmit their feelings and emotions and promises and vows silently through their hands!
Blessing for unborn child (both parents place their hands on tummy)
When you become a parent, you are asked to leave your childhood behind, but this we must never do! It’s the acceptance of our own inner child that makes us be great parents. As parents, we look at our children and see ourselves. We see their potential; we feel their pain and we revel in their successes. It is your job as parents to allow your child the room to grow into the unique individual that they are destined to be. This we can do, if we love them not for who we want them to be, but who they are.
Being a parent is a tremendous responsibility. It is through their relationship with you that your children will first learn about themselves. The interactions between a mother and a father, a husband and a wife provide the framework our children use to relate to the world. It is through watching us that they will learn about men and women, communication, caring, respect, feelings, conflict resolution, and love.
The greatest act of love parents have to give to their children is the love they express for one another. Will you promise to teach this child about life and love, to share with him your thoughts and dreams? Will you raise him or her with an unprejudiced view of life in all of its wonderful diversity?
Do you promise to raise this child to the best of your abilities and instill in him your strong sense of right and wrong, honor and respect for all life on this earth, and to foster patience and understanding and tolerance for others whose views might be different than your own?
Will you promise to teach this child the value of caring for those weaker and less fortunate than yourselves, and a belief in the power of love and truth, integrity and fairness? “We will”
